Those who insist on purchasing a link to a non-relevant site.
October 07, 2007

Despite the fact that this directory requires registration, and despite the fact that our submission guidelines are very clear, people are still submitting sites that have nothing to do with our directory's theme.

Believe it or not, people are still submitting their vBulletin / phpBB forums to this Simple Machines Forum directory. Of course, from your point of view, you'll never see them appear, but from my administrative point of view, all submissions filter through me before their approval happens.

Now, here's today study question: Why would a person spend money to purchase a featured link to a site that our guidelines clearly state will be DENIED? Are they hoping that I'll let this "one" slip through? Hoping that I'm going to look the other way? And for the sake of argument, our guidelines appear on the link submission page! A link to the submission guidelines also appears underneath the About Us section.

Possible Reasons

  • The person cannot read or did not read our submission guidelines.
  • The person read our guidelines and ignored them.
  • The person used a stolen credit card to make the purchase from a non-verified paypal account and is hoping that I will issue a refund.
  • The person is using some kind of automated software to have their site listed in hundreds or even thousands of directories.
